RELEASE FROM AAPI-NCDP CHAIR DR. GRACIE GALLOWAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 21, 2016
Yet again another person of color is dead. Yet again the swirl of unanswered questions become fodder for the press. Yet again before any investigation is begun much less completed the “blame” is pointed at the victim.
Speaking as a person who has seen much violence in her life both at war and as an Emergency Room nurse and now a Nurse Practitioner caring for the poorest and sickest, I am heartsick at what is happening to our beautiful country. The bloodshed and the divisiveness grows with brother pitted against brother, neighbor against neighbor, friend against friend. We have lost civility and graciousness. We have forgotten that we are all in this together. We have become fearful of those that don’t look like us, we foster stereotypes and pigeon hole anyone that dresses or looks differently.
We have forgotten that we are all the family of man and we owe it to each other and to our country and to the world if we are to survive this time of crisis upon crisis. We owe it to each other to stop the madness and take a stand against anger, violence, hatred, bigotry and intolerance. Each of us must take one step forward towards the goal of peace regardless of what your neighbor or the person next to you thinks. Anthropologist Margaret Mead said it best,
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
We are all unique and in this we are all alike.
Peace my brothers and sisters,
Grace L. Galloway, Ph.D., FNP
